PNS Statement of Support for Ukraine

Official Statement as of 9 March 2022:

The Peripheral Nerve Society (PNS) condemns the Russian military invasion of Ukraine and the violation of international law. Our thoughts are with the Ukrainian people, but also with Russian clinicians, scientists and citizens who have the courage to voice their opposition to this unjustified war. As a medical & scientific society, we believe that international scientific exchange is fundamental and cannot be interrupted, especially not in such difficult times of conflict. We urge the Russian government to stop the attack on the sovereign and democratic state of Ukraine and its population immediately.

COVID-19 Vaccine and Guillain-Barré Syndrome

Patients affected by inflammatory PNS disorders, most notably Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), and their physicians are making enquiries to the PNS membership about the merits of receiving a COVID vaccination. The following commentary on this complex issue has been recently published by a team of PNS members, led by Professor Michael Lunn, which summaries the current evidence surrounding vaccination and GBS: https://doi.org/10.1093/brain/awaa444.  For additional information on COVID-19 vaccines and the GBS|CIDP community, please click here.
