Frequently Asked Questions regarding the 2020 PNS Annual Meeting in light of COVID-19
Q1: Why was the decision made to cancel the in-person 2020 PNS Annual Meeting in Miami, Florida?
A1: Protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our members and ultimately our patients is paramount. Although we were looking forward to seeing everyone in Miami, it is simply not possible to move forward with the in-person meeting given the pandemic and ongoing travel restrictions. In recognition of all the hard work that has already gone into this program – especially at the local level – the PNS will hold the 2022 Annual Meeting in Miami over the dates of 25-28 June. The 2020 Annual Meeting will instead, move to a virtual format.
Q2: When will the 2020 PNS Virtual Event occur and what will it include?
A2: The 2020 PNS Virtual Event will occur from Saturday 27 June – Tuesday 30 June 2020. The original dates of the 2020 PNS Annual Meeting. The PNS community has submitted nearly 500 abstracts featuring emerging research to create an outstanding program for 2020. As such, the PNS Board agreed to share as much of this research as possible in 2020. Therefore, the PNS will continue to host several key aspects of the 2020 Annual Meeting in a virtual format. The 2020 PNS Virtual Event will include access to both live and pre-recorded sessions, including industry symposiums, special interest group programming, clinical trials, platform presentations from top ranked abstracts, and an innovative and interactive virtual poster forum, available on-demand after the congress.
Additionally, Dr. James Sejvar a neurologist and epidemiologist at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will keynote the inaugural virtual event, with a talk focused on the neurological manifestations of COVID-19.
Q3: I submitted an abstract for the 2020 PNS Annual Meeting. Can I still present my abstract for inclusion in the Virtual Poster Forum?
A3: Yes! Accepted abstracts are still invited to present in the 2020 PNS Virtual Poster Forum. Poster presentation upload instructions will be forthcoming. To maximize attendee engagement and viewing, we encourage all presenters to upload a maximum of 10 PowerPoint slides converted to PDF format to protect the work and content. If your abstract has been selected for a platform presentation, the PNS Executive Office will contact you with additional details. Note: Special Interest Group (SIG) programming is still being developed. You may receive additional invitations to present your information by mid-May.
Q4: I was invited to deliver a talk at the in-person Annual Meeting in Miami, how will this affect me?
A4: The PNS Executive Office is contacting all speakers regarding their formal invitations in May. Please contact Tanya at meetings@PNSociety.com for any pressing concerns.
Q5: Will Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits be offered for the virtual event?
A5: CME’s will not be offered as part of the virtual event.
Registration and Hotel Information
Q6: What is the cost of the 2020 PNS Virtual Event and where may I register?
A6: The virtual event will be free for PNS members. Please click here to join or renew your membership dues today. Event registration will be available on the 2020 PNS Virtual Event website, launching 22 May.
Q7: I have already registered for the PNS 2020 Annual Meeting in Miami; will my registration be transferred to the 2020 PNS Virtual Event?
A7: Registration will not be transferred. You will need to register for the virtual event once registration is open. Since the virtual event is free of charge, your Miami meeting registration will be refunded within 1-months’ time. A cancellation notification will be sent once the reimbursement has been processed. Please allow up to 10 business days to see the refund back on your card. Please contact Glenn at info@PNSociety.com with any questions or concerns.
Q8: I have already reserved my room at the InterContinental Miami Hotel. What is the hotel cancellation policy?
A8: The InterContinental Miami Hotel will proceed in cancelling your fully refundable hotel reservation. A cancellation notice will be forthcoming. If you do not receive a cancellation notice from the hotel in 1-months’ time please contact the InterContinental Miami Hotel directly to cancel your fully refundable hotel reservation.
Q9: I am not a PNS member, but I would like to attend the 2020 PNS Virtual Event. Where can I learn about membership?
A9: Membership benefits and current dues rates are listed on the PNS Membership Information page on our website. The virtual event is free of charge for all Society members.
If you are facing financial hardships and cannot pay for membership in 2020, please contact the PNS office at info@PNSociety.com, outlining your situation and it will be addressed on a case by case basis.
Q10: I need to renew my membership dues; can I do this when I register for the virtual event?
A10: You will have the opportunity to renew membership dues when you register for the virtual event.
Q11: I am a sponsor; how will this affect me?
A11: New sponsorship opportunities will be coming 1 May, including virtual industry sponsored symposiums.
Q12: I purchased exhibit space for 2020, will I get a refund?
A12: Yes, you will be given the opportunity to move your exhibit purchase to 2021 or receive a refund in 1 months' time. Additional sponsorship opportunities will be available by 1 May. An email with additional details will be forthcoming.
