Alan J. Gebhart Prize for Excellence in Peripheral Nerve Research
Each year, we award the prestigious Alan J. Gebhart Prize for Excellence in Peripheral Nerve Research during our awards ceremony at the PNS Annual Meeting. This award recognizes an Active PNS Member’s ongoing contributions to our mission of “improving the lives of people with peripheral neuropathies.” The unrestricted cash prize is awarded to an established researcher in the peripheral nerve field. Please join us on Tuesday, 20 June 2023, as we honor our esteemed PNS colleague.
Application Period: 15 December 2022 – 1 April 2023
Prize Criteria: The award recipient must be:
- An established researcher in the field of peripheral nerve.
- An active member of the PNS in good financial standing for a minimum of two years.
Prior applicants are encouraged to re-apply. Prior prize recipients will not be eligible.
2022 Alan J. Gebhart Prize Recipient
Ahmet Hoke, MD, PhD, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA
The prestigious Alan J Gebhart Prize for Excellence in Peripheral Nerve Research was awarded to Dr. Ahmet Hoke from Johns Hopkins University. The award recognizes his ongoing contributions to our mission of “improving the lives of people with peripheral neuropathies.” Professor Hoke has made major scientific contributions to our understanding of the biology of axons and Schwann cells. His work has had an impact on the full range of peripheral neuropathies including diabetic, chemotherapy induced, traumatic and inherited neuropathy.. He has taken important roles in clinical care of patients and has been a leading advocate for people with peripheral nerve disorders”
